Breakfast with the Greeners!

A record number of members and friends showed up for our little gathering at IHOP at 7 am to get

started before we go over to the Spokane County Fairgrounds where the Train Show will happen.

There were 21 of us taking up the space and most of the guys were wearing the club shirts!

Our good friend from Wenatchee mike Walcker had his table with our group selling brass and other

models.  Mike was a Washington State Patrol officer and a BNSF cop and I still like him!  I love his SI hat!

This suspicious character was hanging around our table....oh wait, that's one of our members named Bob

Gadsby. He was a border patrol agent on the Canadian Border and he kept the bad guys from coming

down here. These two tables handle the club's effort to sell the Hugh Ebright collection of locos and freight cars.

Terry Frank helped me at my tables where I am getting low on saleable models from my collection.

Jim Bowden converses with Spike Gorley and his wife  at his table. Jim was a Lionel guy until he joined

our HO club and became a dedicated HO guy himself.

KHQ TV visits the Evergreen Railroad!

After numerous attempts to get coverage of our open house events, KHQ television showed up

Saturday afternoon and put us on the 5 pm news here in Spokane. The camera guy Tim was really impressed!

 

My SP&S Alcos were a big hit especially with the typical Alco sounds gurgling forth like the big ones did. Hey, where's the smoke?

 

Baldwin was also present with this single locomotive pulling a local. This engines were the first ones

I remembered at Parkwater working the yard as a switch engine.

 

Steve Weso had this long freight running Thursday night with Hustle Muscle on the lead while his caboose

is entering a tunnel as he passes himself.

 

Another view of my 3 Milwaukee Road SD40-2 leading the charge past Beaver Canyon. The third loco

is a patch job for Helm Leasing.

 

We had some 50 people show up during the evening and most of the members showed up

wearing the clubs new shirts.

These are pictures of my Sierra West Water Tank and Storage Shed.

It's not quite finished, but almost there.  I plan to enter it into a fine scale modeler's

contest in Boston at the end of the month.

Mr. Weso keeps shooting video so stay tuned to see more of his productions. He is faithfully at the club

except when Gonzaga University is playing basketball on the tele!

 

Mike Baker had his magnificent Great Northern Empire Builder on our open house event.

 

Old meets new as the decades collide during Thursday night's warm up. The small units would be

the 1970's on the Union Pacific and the modern BNSF unit can be seen today in the rails.

 

Don Carnegie keeps the flame alive with a medium sized steamer doing the honors with modern coal

cars working the mines on the Green Branch.

 

Terry Frank picked up my work train equipment that was parked in the Red yard and now it is on its

way to fix a problem.

 

A visitor from the Great White North named Lachlan stopped by the club with his dad and Spike

allowed him to run his train around the layout a few times. I think is was pleased?

 

 

Test runs of trains for Saturday's open house

Mike Baker learned well on whatever weathering classes he attended by me as his Milwaukee Road

units got the treatment in grunge.  Show starts 5 pm to 9 pm on Saturday before the train show.

Scotty Smith is a Union Pacific guy with his 7 car UP passenger train making the rounds.

 

I brought in a few SP&S units to pull a freight train on Saturday.

 

Scotty has changed out the power from the E units to a steam engine on his UP train.

 

Those videos you see coming out of the Evergreen are done by Steve Weso and here he is shooting more

video for future productions. He is as nutty making videos as I am doing these still shots. What a team!

 

Tom Kirk took my Milwaukee locos out for a spin as I was busy with painting some equipment for

a few members. How do you like the patch job on number 3. It turned into a Helm Leasing unit and

the corporate lettering had to go.  I guess they didn't have any orange left in Milwaukee?

Tour by Model A of the Evergreen hot spots

The photographer mast own a Model A as it seems to be in all the shots. We see him visiting the

local lumber mill in his fancy yellow machine.

 

Next stop is at Jimmy's Cider factory where the soft and hard stuff is manufactured. It was named

Jimmy's after Jim Trunzo donated his model and talents to make it a feature in Bakersville.

 

Plenty of customers are waiting for the next passenger train to pick them up to go the the big city

of Cobbleton. Notice that people dressed properly back then with ties and  shiny shoes!

 

Either Donald Trump is in town or the local pimp is now out of jail as the pink Cadillac is parked

on the street in Bakersville.

 

The Bakersville Fire Department has a new fire truck and the old one is now in the alley.

 

The photographer's car needs new tires and who better to install them but our own Kelly Tire

business located at the outskirts of Bakersville. If he drives over that boulder he will need another

new tire and a rim!

Tuning up for the Saturday Open House at the Evergreen!

Up in the high Sierra Mountains strange steam machines worked the timber industry and brought out millions of logs so we could make things like

houses and model railroad layouts. This shot reminds me that men worked a long, hard day to make a few bucks doing the job few of us would do today.

 

Bob Gadsby ran this little bit of heaven today at the club but friend of the Evergreen Chuck Heimerdinger

photographed the real thing back in the early 1960's.

 

Bob suggested this photo of his engine passing a new addition to the club at the log reload on the

Green Branch that Burt is working on. I can't figure out why the white shows up a little pink?

 

Marvin tested out his recently painted BN SD40-2 today in preparation of Saturday's open house.

The night before a train show in Spokane we open our doors to the visitors and guests who would like

to see what we've done to this layout.

 

In the good old days this would be the ultimate way to see the Northwest from a private observation car.

Imagine the cold drinks and hot wings being served while traveling the mountains of Montana...and Idaho.

Almost as good as watching a Seahawk game against the Broncos!

Open House at the Evergreen!

Why we came to Monroe, Washington.

This was our 3rd visit to this show some 300 plus miles from my home to participate in this event.

This is one of three buildings that the modelers and rail fans show up to see what is for sale and see

the many layouts they have operating. It's big!  I didn't see Ken Martin over here? I hope he's OK!

 

All scales were represented but the big stuff made more of an impression on me.

 

This On3 layout had a scene that reminded me of and HO diarama made by Phil Pesek.

 

This model in G scale caught my eye for its size and detail. It makes us HO guys seem we might be

in the wrong scale? Right Marvin?

 

With so much to see and take photos, this model was well done. But where's the roof?

 

Finally, here is the Quinn tables where I had 2 tables with HO models for sale and my CD table where

I make 60,000 photos available to the folks who were not around to see it live! Alice's table is

beyond with Scentsy products.
